how does “RepoMan” GitHub plugin search work?

Our RepoMan free plugin is designed to work alongside Git Updater, and in fact, only plugins that support Git Updater are currently allowed to be added to our collection of GitHub hosted plugins in the plugin-repos.json internal file in RepoMan.

The idea is that RepoMan adds not just an easy way to install plugins from GitHub but also some minor quality control to ensure that only plugins that can receive automatic updates (and have tagged versions) are installed.

They will not conflict 🙂

You can install a repo either via RepoMan or via Git Updater, and then Git Updater will manage the updates either way.

December 2024 update:

RepoMan is no longer Git Updater exclusive… several developers asked us to expand it to support other self-updating plugins that are hosted on GitHub so we went ahead and embraced that approach now. So if plugins support “updates” either via Git Updater or self-updating mechanisms such as YahnisElsts/plugin-update-checker or otherwise, we are now adding ALL such plugins to the RepoMan index.

This change in approach happened in version 1.7.3
